Accommodation
Where to stay
Italy has a wide range of accommodation styles. How you travel shapes how you pack.
Hotel-to-hotel
Book hotels in advance and ride light. No camping kit needed — just a small saddle bag or handlebar roll.
B&B / Guesthouse
A popular choice in Italy — personal service, home-cooked breakfasts, and a local feel that adds to the experience.
Agriturismo
Farm stays that offer food, wine, and a slower pace. A great choice for routes through rural Tuscany, Umbria, or the hills.
Camping
Brings more kit but more freedom. Ideal for mountain routes and riders who want full flexibility on where they stop.
Mixed
A combination of styles. Useful for routes that pass through remote stretches with limited accommodation options.
Navigation
How navigation works
Rouvets routes are supplied with digital route files and practical route notes. You can use a compatible GPS device or phone-based navigation — whatever you prefer.

Fitness & Experience
Riding for every level
Routes are graded to match different rider profiles. If you're unsure, we can help you choose the right level during planning.
Beginner-friendly
Shorter daily distances, gentler gradients, and routes that reward scenery over effort. Suitable for first-time bikepackers.
Intermediate
Moderate distance and climbing. Requires reasonable fitness and some experience riding loaded.
Challenging
Big days, significant elevation, and demanding surfaces. Best suited to experienced cyclists comfortable with long mileage.
E-bike supported
E-bike setups open up harder routes and longer days to a wider range of riders and mixed-ability groups.
E-Bikes
Ride further with e-bike support
E-bikes make longer distances, bigger climbs, and mixed-ability groups more accessible. They work well on routes with significant elevation or for riders who want to cover more ground without the physical limit.
E-bike setups are available on selected models. Range depends on the bike, terrain, and assist level — we provide guidance on range and charging logistics during trip planning.
Weather & Seasons
When to ride
Spring
March – May
Mild temperatures, quieter roads, and landscapes in full colour. One of the best windows for bikepacking across most Italian regions.
Summer
June – August
Long days and warm evenings, but higher temperatures in lowland areas. Alpine and coastal routes ride well. Plan earlier starts.
Autumn
September – November
Cooler air, harvest season, and beautiful scenery. One of the most atmospheric times to ride in Italy.
Winter
December – February
Southern regions and coastlines remain rideable. Alpine passes may close. Check route conditions before travelling.
Safety
Riding responsibly

- In an emergency, call 112 (European emergency number)
